Nature .VS. Nurture
There has always been a large debate over whether we inherited genes or the environment influences and affects our personality, development, intelligence and ability .This debate is most often seen as nature verses nurture. The minority of people believe that it is mainly our genes that affect our way of life whereas the majority believe it’s the environment. Social scientists have been struggling for a life time deciding whether our personalities are born or made. A study was done to see whether a trait would show up in a child if it was environmentally influenced or genetically influenced. A child if it was given a more negative attention showed signs of depression and anti-social behaviour. Past twenty years it was discovered that there is a genetic component in every human, however genetic influence on traits and behaviour is partial because genetics account on half of the variation of most traits Urie Bronfrenbrenner, who studies genetics, said: “It’s not nature vs. nurture, but there interactions of nature and nurture that drives development”. Researchers are finding that the balance between genetic and environmental influences for certain traits charge as people get older. People may react in a certain way because of a genetically influenced personality. This means that our experience may be influenced by our genetic tendencies.
