Diagnostic Essay: Should Students Proceed Directly To College After High School? My own experience and personal opinion is college directly after high school is the way to go. I was always told that if I wanted to get a job, I would have to go to school for at least four more years in order to be competitive with everyone else. I knew that all of the people at my age would be doing the same thing so I didn’t want to be behind the curve. With that being said, I went to college for a couple of semesters and had to drop out on account of not having the money that it would take to attend. I knew before going to college that a college loan is the only thing that you cannot get rid of unless you pay it off on time. With no other options, I joined the military and chose it as a career. After joining the military I was able to get back into the swing of things and start up with school again. I think that I will be a better person and I will be more employable in the future when I get out of the military. I think on the overall scope of things, college should be done directly after high school. I know that studies have shown that people are more likely to succeed in school and in their careers if they don’t wait. Once someone gets out of the swing of things it is very hard to get it back.
