In my opinion marijuana should be legalized for medicinal purposes only. Marijuana has been proven to far outweigh the pain relieving benefits of other narcotics such as Oxicodone, Percocet, and Morphine. Evidence supports marijuana being used for medicinal use as far back as 2,737 BC. Marijuana is also an immediate pain relief. People who are in excruciating pain do not enjoy waiting an hour or more for their pain to be relieved by narcotic pain relievers. Medical marijuana also has short term effects on your body unlike narcotics which could leave you dazed and confused for the next 24 hours. Medical marijuana can also greatly slow or even stop the progress of many diseases such as Alzeihmer’s, HIV, AIDS, and all types of cancer. If marijuana can help cure these diseases then why don’t we use it. We’re always looking for a cure for cancer and it’s sitting right in front of us we just won’t allow it. Many myths are believed about marijuana by people who know nothing about it just because they believe smoking marijuana to be morally wrong. I have my morals too and I do not smile upon smoking marijuana without a purpose, although if you have a disease or unbearable pain I see nothing wrong with curing it. The government doesn’t need to try and control peoples bodies and what they do with it as long as they aren’t provoking any type of harm to anyone else.
