On Anzac Day, 25 April 2007 I received a parking ticket (Notice Number 17565) for parking on the beach at Hatfields Beach. I would like you to please reconsider enforcing the parking fine for the following reasons: I have launched my boat many times before from the ramp at Hatfields Beach and have always parked in the rest area between the beach and main road. However, on Anzac day this area was full of cars and boat trailers which were parked on the gravel road area and grass verge. I therefore decided to park on the beach as I have previously seen many cars parked there and it was out of the way of any beach goers. I thought this would also be much safer than parking on the busy main road and I don’t believe it caused any offence or inconvenience to anyone. When I returned from my fishing trip, I saw that there were a number of other cars with trailers parked on the beach and I was surprised to see I had a parking ticket for doing so. I was not aware that it was an offence to park on the beach as I have never noticed a sign before. However, I had a look afterwards and saw that there was a sign that said ‘No car or trailer parking’, but this did not say ‘no parking on beach’, so I wonder if you are also not allowed to park anywhere on the gravel rest area?
