Intro to Business Career Research Assignment Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon- My Uncle is a Maxillofacial Surgeon and I have shadowed him at work a couple times and its interesting to watch what he does. On bls.gov it doesn’t give specific information but it give information about dentists. Dentists treat problems with the teeth and tissues in the mouth. This is a very strenuous job because you have to be very careful with the hand tools you are doing and your head has to be in the same position for hours. An average dentist works 30-45 hours a week. To get into a dental school you would usually need a bachelor’s degree at another college. In addition you should have taken quite a few science courses. Then you should take at least 4 years of medical school. Then you are required to pass multiple tests. The average dentist makes around 158k a year and the average Maxillofacial Surgeon makes around 215k a year. My uncle makes around 750k a year, because he is a solo practitioner and owns 3 offices. In the upcoming years, employment is expected to grow faster than average. It says all medical employment is expected to grow because the population of the world will continue to grow. Especially the elderly since the diets of people currently are superb and medicine keeps everyone healthy so the elderly population will grow along with their dental problems. I think this career is a descent career for me but it has its tradeoffs. It requires many years of schooling long work day...
