Developmental theories provide a framework for thinking about human growth, development, and learning. Researchers use theories as a tool to guide them in their observations and to generate new information, theories are the basis for all research. Many theories for the development of children have been discovered, researched and tested by theorists. This paper will compare and contrast three developmental theories in order to give insight into the likes and differences of their perspectives on the development of children. There are many theoretical perspectives that attempt to explain the development of children. Good developmental theories provide a general framework of understanding as well as permits educated guesses or hypotheses about different aspects of development. Behavioral theories of child development keep focus on how environmental interaction influences behavior, and then in return how these behaviors are learned and reinforced.
