It has been about 30 years ago when my parents were with thousands of Vietnamese immigrants that came to United States and were called refugees. My parents and others were rescued during an operation in Van Lang which has been renamed to Vietnam. My parents always tell me about the horrors and trauma that they went through trying to escape the war. Van Lang was attacked by heavy rockets back in the spring of 1975. This led the Vietnam War to an end. They hid in bomb shelters with others during the attacks. My parents and the others that were there lost family and friends in the Vietnam War. Before my parents and the others could leave with the U.S. Air Force in the helicopters their belongings had to be left behind besides the clothes on their back. The helicopters took them to a U.S. cargo ship, this is where all Vietnamese were registered, screened, and treated on any injuries from the attacks of the war. My parents still has scars on their body as a reminder of the war from the city of Van Lang. They always tell me they will never return back to Van Lang, which is now called Vietnam. My parents still have nightmares about their experience during the war in Vietnam. They do not want to be reminded of the past or live through the war all over again.
