In introducing the effects of diabetes in my father’s life, it’s necessary to elaborate on the origin of diabetes and on what, exactly, is diabetes.
Diabetes earned its title, “Sweet Urine Disease”, by a Chinese doctor, and at another time diabetes was given the phrase, “ siphoning off sweet water”, by a doctor in Greece back in 1675. It goes without mentioning the years passed, since this disease had been detected. These terms were coined, as such, due to the sugar (glucose), that the human body produces, passing through the urine. Thus, there wouldn’t be any allowance by the body’s beta cells – produced within the pancreas- to absorb that sugar. The latter is primordial to the production of insulin- a hormone that the body is supposed to self-produce. Consequently, the body malfunctions without the energy that the insulin hormone contributes to its vitality.
There are several types of diabetes- the 2nd type within the order, to follow, being the most common type- affecting 90 to 95 percent of all diabetes cases: type I, type II, and gestational diabetes. Being that the main source of energy in the body is glucose, the digestion of food is vital- for the body to convert this food into fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. The latter is redolent of a properly functioning system- on that basis.
