Misuse and over reliance on computer devices
Have we become over reliant, frequent abusers of computer devices with prospect greater than what reasonably can be expected? Are we now but mere slaves to the technology that we created? The overuse and delusional high expectations put on computer technology itself, combined with care overlooking risks involved with the use of said technology, again multiplied by juvenile notion that this manmade technology is infallible is a risk to us all. These are all compelling statement and valid concerns concerning the World’s ability or inability to put technology in its proper place in the world we live in today.
First I would like to address dependency. Have we gone as far to lessen the inability of humans to provide security that we are first to issue blame on the technology instead of the people responsible for the break. A prime example of this is presented in IT Failures in terror screening (Dignan, 2010). Stating facts reported on the incident of a proposed terror plot on a Christmas Day on a Northwest Airlines flight. It reads of statements like “Weak information technology contributed to security failure” (Dignan, para. 1) and “Humans collected data but a finished intelligence report due to a faulty database search.”(Dignan, para. 3).
