Many early biblical figures displayed similarities in their interactions with their almighty God. In respect to David and Moses, they each displayed similar qualities in their dealings with God but also differed in the ultimate goal that their God had for them. From their backgrounds to their leadership abilities, David and Moses differed in many ways, but when it came to achieving their ultimate goal, honoring their Lord and following his commands, they both were extremely successful.
The early lives of David and Moses differ in a number of ways but also grew up in a similar manner because neither was born into wealthy, high ranking families but both made drastic changes to the lives of their people in their respective time periods. Moses grew up in a time of slavery and oppression for the Israelites and should never have lived his life past infancy. Because Pharaoh’s daughter took Moses as her son, he lived his early life with a luxury and power that never would have existed had he been thrown into the Nile as the Pharaoh wished of all the male Hebrew newborns of that time. When Moses was forced to flee Egypt because of murdering an Egyptian he became a shepherd who tended the flocks of his father-in-law. Likewise, David was also a shepherd who was tending his father’s flocks while his brothers were at war against the Philistines.
