“Enlightenment is man leaving his self caused immaturity,” (Kant 408) Many individual societies have different opinions and outlooks on exactly what their definition of the good life is. The Romans, Greeks, and the French have all displayed certain aspects of the good life. The best way of pursuing the good life is obtaining a solid form of government where the people have freedom and a sense of security, developing an adequate health care system that caters to the specific needs and basic human rights of a particular society, having a clear perspective of the world and its surroundings and reaching a form of enlightenment. Having a stable form of government is the number one necessity for any civilization trying to reach the good life. The only way to find out what kind of traits a so-called perfect government should possess is to extract certain ideals from each successful predecessor to judge which of those contributed to formation of the good life. The Romans, Greeks, French and Americans had completely different views on the government needed to achieve the good life. The Greek city-state around 2000-0 B.C.E. had very important aspects of government that are key elements in the pursuit of the good life. Greece created a balance of order and chaos, along with equality for all the people.
