How much of a role do you think television plays in socialization process? Does it affect everyone to the same extent? I think that it depends on the age of the person and what they’re watching. Socialization is the lifelong social experience by which people develop their human potential and learn culture. I think that television doesn’t affect everyone to the same extent. Television can affect some people in a negative way and a positive way. For example, children that watch wrestling may think that it’s cool, but they don’t realize that those people are actors and professionals who practice the physical activity that they are demonstrating. There was an incident where a young boy imitated a wrestling move on his sister and unfortunately he unintentionally killed her. By him watching that particular program, it has affected his life and others greater than most people.
Television can have a positive effect on children and adults. With educational programs, it can enhance ones intellectual growth. For example, Sesame Street stimulates young children’s minds; improve their vocabulary, problem solving, and etcetera. A Science program, such as Bill Nye the Science Guy, has useful information on science. The news provides information on current events which make us aware of what’s going on around us and in the world.
