Abstract
This paper will explain how the benefits of a four-day week schedule for school districts will allow them to better educate students. In the current economy, schools are scampering to get supplies, pay salaries, and in some cases, just remain open. The money that would be saved by schools implementing the four-day week would accomplish those tasks.

    Schools are shutting down, teachers are being laid off, and class sizes are growing to accommodate the students from other districts that no longer exist. The Michigan State government is slashing their budget to try and stay afloat in this time of economic hardship. The sad part about this is that every time a new budget is introduced, schools are often the ones having to make cut backs. Books, supplies, quality teachers, and the quality of the education being given are all consequences due to the cut in funding. Ah, but wait, there is a plan that has been experimented with, and implemented in many school districts that can help the school districts in Michigan battle the cuts in funding. In 1972 a New Mexico school district started a four day school week schedule as a way of saving money on transportation and electricity cost that had been triggered by the energy/oil crisis (CPSER, p. 1).
