Art has played a major role in religion for millenniums. From Sumerian art (ca 2500 BC) to the massive churches built today, art has been used to portray beliefs and stories to its members. Although the images have changed throughout the years, there has been one collective piece of art that unified a religion. Built on what is believed to be burial place of St Peter himself, it is believed that the original location of the church housed the burials and memorials of most of the popes from the time of its construction, until 15th century AD.
