WHY YOU SHOULD WEAR A SEATBELT

There are many reasons why you should wear a seatbelt. Doctors recommend it in a crash and it is the best protection for you and your unborn child. There have been many instances where during an accident, passengers collide with one another and wearing a seatbelt would avoid unwanted injuries. The most important reason for wearing a seatbelt is that it reduces the chance of injury by 50%, if you happen to get into an accident.

I have learned that in the case of an accident, if it is found that the person who suffered injuries because of not wearing a seatbelt, then that person is equally responsible for their injuries.

Most cars today have airbags which is a huge safety feature but when used in conjunction with seatbelts your chances of injury are greatly reduced. Air bags only keep you from hitting your head however; a seatbelt will keep you snug in your seat and inside the vehicle. I have learned that every year nearly 10,000 lives are saved by using a seatbelt and from 1975 through 1999; an estimated 123,213 lives were saved.

In 1996 only one percent of restrained passenger car occupants were ejected as opposed to twenty percent of unrestrained passengers. The first seatbelt law went into effect in the state of New York in 1984. Shortly after, all other states followed and now it is the law in EVERY state to wear your seatbelt.
