These three themes linger throughout both of the films and I will further prove that Fatal Attraction is echoing the same themes from the earlier movie Double Indemnity.
Double Indemnity was released in 1944 and directed by Billy Wilder. The main characters of this film were Walter Neff who is the insurance agent and the married woman Phyllis Dietrichson. The overall gist of this movie is that this Walter gets sucked into a scam to kill Phyllis Dietrichson’s husband in order for her to collect money from his life insurance. Lies, trickery, deception, sex and manipulation are in full force in this movie. Walter does kill Mr. Dietrichson for Phyllis and of course things start to unravel. Keyes is Walter’s boss and he is also investigating the case which makes Walter more and more paranoid by the moment. More of the plot continues to unravel with fear and guilt seeping from Walter and he decides to kill Phyllis but not before she shoots him. Walter tells everything in deep detail before he attempts to leave but ends up falling at the door.
