Helping Olivia
Name Class Date Instructor Olivia is a 2 year old girl who is struggling to learn how to express herself and to control her emotions. As such, she displays inappropriate behaviors such as to bite another person in order to express her anger. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt strategies to help Olivia to control her current developmental problems so as to ensure that she can be develop healthily and display the right behaviors. This paper will discuss the ways in to help Olivia. In this case, an appropriate environment for Olivia will be one with adult supervision. As can be seen, Olivia requires the attention of adults and it will be beneficial to have an adult present to guide and monitor Olivia as well as her playmates. In the case study, Olivia is still struggling to express herself. As such, an adult is required not just to supervise her but also to engage in intentional teaching with her and her playmates to teach them how to express themselves appropriately. The environment should provide tables, games, toys or resources where Olivia can play with other children so as to teach her and allow her to learn how to socialize appropriately. In addition, a punishment corner should also be set up whereby Olivia or other children can be sent to be alone for a while for misconduct so that they will learn about what can or cannot be done (“Understanding and Applying Developmentally Appropriate Practice”).
