Civil Engineering can simply be defined as a branch of engineering that deals with the construction and design of structures, such as dams and bridges. Although I did not choose Civil Engineering as my major, I did decide to take this course because there are certain aspects that intrigue me.
One of the major reasons I opted to take the course, Introduction to Civil Engineering, is because it plays a role in our daily lives. The perfect example would be when you start your day off with a shower. The water is carried through a supply system, which consists of well-designed network of pipes. Also, we would not be able to drive to work or school without the designs and constructions by civil engineers. Hence, the significance of civil engineering is established by how important one individual views it to be in his/her daily life. Water Resources Engineering is a sub-discipline of civil engineering that has grasped my attention. This discipline relates to the management of the quality and quantity of water. I find it interesting that it supplies water for irrigation, cities, and industries. But more than that, its main goal is to use the overall water resources to its maximum capacity, which I am looking forward to learning more about. ...
