The distinction between a utopian and dystopian “environment” is often in the eye of the beholder, for what some see as working, others see as failing. Ones perception of the term “environment” will continue to play a role in the way mankind mentally grasps the term “nature.” Modern understanding of the term “environment” refers to the conditions, circumstances, etc. that surround and influence life on earth. Hard times by Charles Dickens, As you like it by William Shakespeare, and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley create clear depictions of the term “environment.” From majestic forests, huge plains, and sloping hills, to the influence the “environment” has on the “nature” of each character from each text mentioned; the term “environment” is efficiently portrayed. Mankind’s perceptions nonetheless, create differences on how we interpret each others conditions or surroundings, which in turn influence and shape our nature or humane order of life. Therefore a question is raised: Is the human perception of the “environment” a human construct?
