In this article the government is debating on whether or not to use a nearly empty state prison as a facility for Guantanamo bay inmates. This is causing concern for the community of Thomson, Illinois. On the upside, they believe the move will create more jobs, and greater income for the small community which is suffering greatly from the recession. They are just heavily concerned that they will become a target for terrorism since the state prison will house terrorists from Guantanamo bay. The state facility in Thomson is currently housing 200 minimum security inmates. It has 1,600 maximum security cells, 146 acres of land, with a 15 foot electric stun fence. If the federal bureau of Prisons buys the facility, Sen. Dick Durbin said fewer than 100 inmates would be moved from G-bay to Tompson. The White House is also estimating about 2,300 to 3,200 job openings for the community. They also believe it will bring about 1 billion in income to the local economy. ...
