In the article, “Leadership in Troubled Times,” by Martha Casassa talks about how to be a great leader or a manager at a work place. Article started off with economic crisis caused many anxious situations for employees such as job loss, home loss, family disruption, and retirement concerns. It addresses that main problem employee face are they feel they have less control over these factors such as job security, consumer and co-worker relationships, confidence, trust, worthy and supportive Casassa mentions that any human beings feel distrust, a loss of confidence, anger and fear as times when we face uncertainty and loss of control at work environment. All of these factors can negatively affect social interactions between lab employees and which can result reduced productivity, performance issues and low morale. Casassa suggests that there are four critical actions a leader or manager should follow to improve his/her roles or models for being a great leader or a manager. The four critical actions are 1) clearly goals for your employees with their areas of responsibility and accountability, 2) Communicate effectively, 3) Empower your employees, 4) Invest in your employees.
