“Cinderella” by Charles Perrault and “The Maiden, The Frog, and The Chiefs Son” recorded in the Hausa language and published first by Frank Edgar, are two tales of what we are most familiar with as Walt Disney’s “Cinderella.” Each story has a few obvious similarities while each one contains very unique differences.
    Although, they acquire them in different ways the stories are similar in that the “Cinderella” character in each story is mistreated by an evil step mother. In Perrault’s version of “Cinderella” her step mother was her father’s second wife. “In The Maiden, The Frog, and The Chiefs Son” her father had two wives, and her mother died so she was taken over by his second wife. Another similarity is that there is a huge party given by the royal family of each story, a ball in “Cinderella” and a festival in “The Maiden.” Also, there is a young son, a prince in “Cinderella” and a Chief’s son in “The Maiden” In which whom both Cinderella and The Maiden fall in love. The final similarities are that “Cinderella” and “The Maiden” have to leave the party before a certain time and in both stories one of her shoes is left behind. The final similarity, that Cinderella and The Maiden had to leave the ball and the festival at a certain time. This helps the prince and the Chief’s son find Cinderella and the Maiden.
