Euthanasia, Mercy Killing; Murder
Euthanasia is aiding and abetting in a person’s suicide. In other words, Euthanasia is mercy killing. In World War II the Nazi’s in Germany participated in a form of severe Euthanasia in which they attempted to wipe out the entire Jewish race. Euthanasia today is not used in such traumatizing ways; however the act in itself is still a fearful thing. Many people may think that assisted suicide is a right they should have control of, however with a right like that, who would be around to make sure it did not get out of control? Euthanasia should never be allowed because of all the damage it could do to not only our society, but to the families and friends of the people asking to be killed.
    If euthanasia is allowed, then where would the limits be to assisting these people in death? In World War 2 the Nazi’s eliminated, “100,000 mental and incurably ill people” (qtd in Landler). To the Nazi’s it did not matter if you could get better again, or if you were a good person, if you did not fit into their “perfect race” then you were killed. Euthanasia may never get that bad again, but everyone has problems in their lives, and that should not be a reason to stop living. But, who is the judge of that decision? In that time it was doctors who learned to treat patients as “cases” rather than actual people (Laidlaw). Today doctors will look out for the best interest of the patient, like Dr. Jack Kevorkian.
