― Abraham Lincoln Women today as during history are the backbone of this society. Women have been the invisible structure to support men, children, and society. During the civil from 1860 through the 1900’s women experienced major shifts and took many roles in society. As America was facing shifting economic, political, cultural and demographic shifts it impacted how human services were delivered also changed. Women were strong and helped immensely during the Civil War. Though society didn’t appreciate women, their efforts during the war certainly attest to the idea that women fought the war in their own ways on the home front and in doing so played a crucial role in helping the war effort. For example in the south while the men gone to war, their wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters assumed the responsibility of their homes, farms, plantations, and businesses. Whether they were writing articles, running husbands business, working in factories, taking on voluntary position to help fundraise or just support their families their presence was crucial in the continuation of life for family during and post war.
