INFANTS INTRODUCTION A baby is a miracle of life, it is very interesting on how an infant has its own reflexes and how they learn. Infants grow and develop very rapidly in the first two years of their lives. I chose this stage because I find it very interesting on what, when and how infants learn and do the things they do. Furthermore how we as parents/caregivers can do our part in their cognitive, social and developmental process a success. The speed and time of developmental skills are influenced by different factors. The developmental areas that I will include in this paper are: cognitive, motor, social, emotional, moral, physical appearance and language developments of infants. Physical appearance in an infant relates to the developmental changes occurring to their bodies such as weight, height, muscles, and even teeth. At birth, the head is about one fourth of the infant’s body length and the legs are one third. In their first two years of life children have a rapid increase in body size, by the end of their first year an infant’s weight is fifty percent more than their birth weight and seventy-five percent more by the time the reach the age of two. This increase in “baby fat” is helpful to an infant, it helps their body temperature maintain at a constant temperature.
