On September 22,1903, Morley Callaghan was born to Roman Catholic parents in Toronto. He studied at University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. He completed his general arts degree and took alot of extracurricular activities. He met Earnest Hemmingway, an early mentor, when he worked at the Toronto Star Weekly part time. Morley spent a couple of years in Law and completed his Law degree in 1928 but he loved writing much more than law.

The first novel Callaghan wrote was in 1928, Strange Fugitive. In 1992, he decided to work and sign with a publishing house in New York for his first collection of short stories, A Native Argosy. He got married and went to France where he met with Hemmingway, F. Scott Ftizgerald and James Joyce in Paris.

Callaghan knocked out American novelist, Earnest Hemmingway in a friendly boxing match, and their friendship was never the same. During the next 10 years, he was influenced by American literature and he wrote a number novels. For example; It's Never Over (1930), A Broken Journey (1932), Such is My Beloved (1934), They Shall Inherit the Earth (1935), Now that April's Here and Other Stories (1936) and More Joy in Heaven (1937). In every of these novels, he has included Christian theological themes, and deep characterization.

He became a proefssional writer and wrote for newspapers and radio so that he could support his family, that consists of his wife and 2 sons. Morley had gone through 3 deaths...
