"What people don't realize about swimming is how tough it is!" , says senior Kira Golden. "You have to mentally and physically motivate yourself to stay in the water, even if you're tired!". Of course, many of us are more than convinced that swimming is probably one of the easiest sports at North Shore: all you do is move in the water, avoid bumping into others, and compete to see who moves faster, right? It CAN'T get any easier than that. But starting swim practice at 6:00am in the morning and training for 5 hours a day doesn't sound like the easiest sport ever. As a matter of fact, it sounds as difficult as any other sport: in other words, our swimmers work HARD. "The time, hard work, and self-sacrifice drive us to perform well at the end of the season and to improve our times.", Kira also seai, "Nothing beats the feeling you have in the end of a long season when your work has paid off, and you become a faster, and better swimmer!"
Thanks to all their hard work, the swim team has more swimmers go to TISCA ( a BIG swim competition) than ever before, and they performed amazingly well. They also had junior Nicolas Alvarez, win a Regionals medal. Most importantly, through the successful season, the swimmers also grew closer as a team. "I've been here for 3 years now, and I've grown close to these people. The memories we make now are the ones I'll remember forever," says junior Anne Belza.
