Fahrenheit 451 takes place in an unspecified future american society, where books are forbidden. Guy Montag is a fireman, his job is not to put out fires but searches out books and burns them, and the homes that contain them. The fireman wear “451” on their uniform because is the temperature at which book paper catches fire and burn. On a rainy night returning home from his job, Guy Montag meets Clarisse McCleallan, she and her family had recently moved into the neighborhood. As Montag is forced to question his life, his ideas, and his perceived happiness when clarisse questions Montag: “Are you happy?”. Clarisee would not ask how a thing was done but why. After meeting Clarisse, Montag enters his home finding his wife Mildred Montag overdosed with sleeping pills, and which refuses to aknowledge her suicide attempt, and she holds to demonstrate a great deal of pain. The firemen along with the mechanican hound reaspond to an alarm that the old woman has her house infested with books, as the firemen shower the whole house with flamable kerosence Montag reads at a line on one of her books: “Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine”, which makes Montag steel one of her books. The old woman refuses to leave her house and her books, she lights up a match burning herself alive leaving Montag to question: “There must be something in books, things we cant imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there.
