Eddie Gein was born on August 27, 1906, to Augusta and George Gein in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Eddie had an older brother who was seven years older. Augusta, Eddie’s mother was an extremely religious woman who wanted to raise her sons according to her strict moral religious code. Sinners were all around Augusta's world and she taught her sons the teachings of the Bible every day. She warned her sons of the wickedness and looseness of women, hoping to take away any sexual desires the boys might have had, for fear of them being sent into hell! Augusta was a bossy, hard woman who believed her views of the world were true. She had no problem forcing her beliefs on her sons and her husband either.
George, Eddie’s father was a weak man and an alcoholic; he also had no say in raising his children. Augusta hated George and saw him as a worthless man not even fit to hold a job, never mind care for his own children. She took it upon herself to not only raise the children according to her beliefs but also to provide for the family financially. She opened a grocery store in La Crosse the year Eddie was born, and it made decent money to support the family comfortably for the time period. She worked hard and saved money so that the family could move to a more rural area away from the immorality of the city and the sinners that populated it.
